Bananas are the most popular fruits in the world. The native of modern edible bananas is from Papua New Guinea, South Asia and South-east Asia. The banana is, in fact, not a tree but a high plant that grows up to 15 metres. The "trunk" of a banana plant is not made of wood; it is made of tightly overlapping leaves. A stem of bananas consists of “hands”, which consist of 10 to 20 bananas. When a hand is split, the bananas become “clusters”, which generally consist of between three to eight bananas. Wild bananas grow throughout South-east Asia, but most are inedible for humans, as they are studded with hard seeds. The inside of a banana skin can be used to polish shoes. Dried bananas are also ground to make banana flour.

Thai banana
Commercial varieties of bananas in Thailand are classified in three classes as “Extra” Class, Class I and Class II. Due to fertile soil and warm climate, our much sought-after AAA group of Gros Michel and the most traded Cavendish are highly competitive to Philippine and Ecuador bananas in term of quality. In Thailand, bananas are available in many varieties. They can be made into many kinds of dessert, chips, cakes, beverages and snacks. Also, dried banana can be ground to make flour, therefore, Thai bananas have become delectable.
All bananas are carefully handled after cutting the fruit bunch so that they will not be contaminated. The fruit then will be transported to the packing house where they will be separated into individual hands. From there, they are trimmed, cleaned and sorted into various grades before packing in cases.
As Thailand is one of the top 15 banana producers in the world, supplies of bananas are adequate for both domestic and international markets. Currently, main export markets are Hong Kong, Singapore, Switzerland, Japan, Netherlands and China.
