    • About Lychee Edit

      • Lychee or litchi fruit, is the most renowned of a group of edible fruits of the soapberry family. Lychee tree is handsome, dense, round-topped, slow-growing, 9 - 30 m high and equally broad. Lychee is native to low elevations of the provinces of Guangdong and Fujian, the leading centre of lychee production from southern China, where it flourishes especially along rivers and near the seacoast. Cultivation spread over the years through neighbouring areas of south eastern Asia and offshore islands. Lychees are most relished fresh, out-of-hand. Peeled and pitted, they are commonly added to fruit cups and fruit salads. The fruits are also used in snacks, dessert, puree, sherbet, fruit juice, canned fruits, beverages and syrup.

    • Thai lychee
Currently, Thailand is ranked among the world’s major lychee exporting countries. Thailand has several advantages for lychee production development; they are cultivar, geographic location and agriculture materials. The first record about lychee in Thailand was dated back to the year 1854 (King Rama IV). However, introduction of lychee to this country must be earlier than 150 years ago. It is very likely that the lychee fruit first came along with Chinese traders and immigrants during the Ratanakosin Era (since 1782). There are two types of cultivars that exist in Thailand: (i) the moderately low temperature cultivars which mainly grow in lowland and central areas, and (ii) the low temperature cultivars that grow in the uplands of northern provinces. Thai lychee is just as good quality as the fruit produced in China despite not being the native place. Thailand is now also producing a tea infusion which has the fragrance of lychees and rose petals. It certainly makes an alternative to Russian Caravan or English breakfast.
