Maize
The cultivation of maize or ‘corn’ most probably originated in Central America, particularly in Mexico, from where it spreads northward to Canada and southward to Argentina. The developing countries have more area given to maize cultivation than developed countries, but yield in the latter is about four times higher. Maize is used in food manufacturing as the base ingredient for flour and chips. Starch derived from this high-starch content variety is turned into plastics, as well as fructose which are used as sweeteners in many processed foods and soft drinks. It is also produced primarily for industrial use such as ethanol and cooking oils.

Thai maize
Maize is an agricultural commodity that Thailand has the potential to produce for fresh consumption and for raw materials in the food processing industry with high volume. Maize production in Thailand is booming because of demand for poultry farming and industrial use. International demand also plays a major role in the expansion of maize cultivation. The success of Thailand's maize production is based on the success in developing hybrid maize seed industry. New hybrids are continually being developed and introduced to the market by both private and public sectors.
