Thai soya beans, particularly the recommended cultivars Sor Jor 5 and Chiang Mai 60, are important grain-type varieties primarily grown for their high protein and oil content. Soya beans are available as whole and dehulled split beans.
Sor Jor 5 is a high-yielding variety used in a range of food products. Its seed coat is slightly thinner than that of other varieties, and the beans exhibit excellent antioxidant activity when roasted, making them suitable for diverse processing applications.
Chiang Mai 60 is notable for its exceptionally high protein content and strong rust resistance, making it ideal for producing bean curd and soya milk. It is also recognised for its broad environmental adaptability, and its seeds feature a lighter hilum compared to other cultivars.
