Woodchips are a major agri-forestry export for Thailand, placing the country among the top five exporters worldwide. Different industries use different types of woodchips. Most of Thailand’s woodchips come from eucalyptus trees, especially from twigs and branches left over after felling. These fast-growing trees are well-suited to short-rotation cropping. Woodchips play an important role in Thailand’s biomass economy.

Wood pellets are gaining popularity as a reliable biomass fuel. They are usually made from planted forest wood and sawdust. Our pine wood pellets are softwood-based and ideal for animal bedding, offering good absorbency and hygiene. Rubberwood pellets work well for both bedding and industrial fuel. Eucalyptus and mixed-wood pellets, made from hardwood, are mainly used as fuel in biomass boilers, power stations, and heating systems.

Mixed-wood pellets are the most widely used. Rubberwood pellets are a strong alternative, offering a stable high heating value (HHV). Eucalyptus pellets are commonly used by power stations to generate electricity.
Common uses of wood pellets include:
• Electricity generation
• Industrial fuel
• Household heating
• Bio-diesel production
• Animal bedding (including for pets)

Herbaceous pellets are an emerging category of biomass fuel, produced from non-woody biomass—typically agricultural residues and energy crops. They serve as an alternative to wood pellets, particularly in regions where forest biomass is limited or expensive. Herbaceous pellets generally have lower bulk density and higher ash content compared to wood pellets. They may also be blended with wood pellets to improve technical performance.

⁴Details of each quality classification are provided in a separate document. Technical data for wood and herbaceous pellets are based on TISI (Thai Industrial Standards Institute). TISI specifications may differ slightly from international standards and should be used as a general guide for overseas buyers. If these standards are insufficient for your requirements, please contact Yoohong for full compliance with industrial standards applicable in your country.
